The United Associate (UA) at Washtenaw Community College has created a program that focuses on sustainability. The group for plumbers, pipe fitters, and heating, ventilation, air condition and refrigeration (HVACR) workers has a new degree that focuses on reduction in energy consumption.
An associate of applied science in sustainable technologies in HVACR is designed to help UA members from across the nation learn what's new about what many in the business already know, according to Daniel Welch, UA program administrator.
"We've been in the business of using energy efficiently," said Rod Jara, director of the UA Great Lakes Regional Training Center on campus. "It's a movement of sorts, to be better stewards of our world."
Both Welch and Jara explained that HVACR is largely about reducing energy consumption, but that this degree is geared towards helping UA members keep up to date through education while still working in the field.
