Go Wild(erness)!

Tickets for the Student Development and Activities Go Wild(erness) trip are on sale now for $50.

The trip, on May 29-31, provides transportation to, lodging, and food at the University of Michigan Biological Station on Douglas Lake in Pellston, Michigan.

Trip activities include swimming, fishing and hiking. SDA will present more activity options at the mandatory meeting for ticket holders on May 6 at 6 p.m. in SC 316.

Adobe and Microsoft software discounts

Information Technology Services now offers contracted discounts on Adobe and Microsoft software to students, staff and faculty of Washtenaw Community College.

To access the discounted pricing, go to http://journeyed.com/select, navigate through institution type, state, and choose WCC. Individuals must provide proof of status with a dated student or faculty ID card, a dated/current class schedule, a letter from WCC on school letterhead, or a recent faculty/staff payment stub when purchasing. There will be instructions on how to get the proof to JourneyEd.com at checkout.

Also, beginning in the Spring Semester, financial aid students can buy a gift card to use a portion of their aid on discounted software via the JourneyEd Web site.

Visual Arts Gala

WCC visual arts students present their final portfolios and marketing material at the Visual Arts Gala, Wednesday, April 29, from 4:30-7 p.m. in the Morris Lawrence Building Atrium and Towsley Auditorium.

The exhibit features student work from 3D Animation, Graphic Design/Illustration, Digital Video, and Photography. The video showing is from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Towsley Auditorium.

Refreshments will be served.

Graphic Design student featured in Detroit exhibit

The editorial design submission of Graphic Design student Jordan Young was selected from over 250 entries to appear in the 2009 Detroit AIGA Design Re:View exhibit. AIGA is the professional association for design.

Young's submission, an architectural magazine, beat out student-submissions from the University of Michigan School of Art and Design, Cranbrook Academy of Art, Lawrence Tech University, and Michigan State University. The Design Re:View exhibit, held at Detroit's Russell Industrial Center on April 23, featured professional and student design exemplifying sustainability.

Michigan Heart Walk

Now is the time to sign up for the 2009 Michigan Heart Walk, which raises money for the awareness, prevention and treatment of heart disease.

The event, on Saturday, May 9, from 8:30 a.m.-11 a.m., is on the Washtenaw Community College campus. The WCC team will meet in the Student Activities office, SC 112, before joining the main event.

Technology Day

At Technology Day on Friday, May 1, faculty will present career options for graduates of the WCC Schools of Nursing and Health Sciences and Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management.

At the event, from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in Student Center Building, faculty will give hands-on demonstrations with an opportunity for students to engage in the activities. Lunch will be provided.
